IUPUI is Indiana's premier urban research university. The campus enrolls more than 30,000 students in 21 schools and academic units.
IUPUI welcomes any student who has finished his or her high school studies through home schooling.
Over 150 students have enrolled at IUPUI with home school backgrounds and as a group these students have academically excelled and out-performed the general student population.
To apply for admission, complete either the online application or the PDF freshman application. Look under freshman admission. Please list the name of the high school as "home school".
Our admission requirements for home school students are the same requirements used for students attending public or private schools.
Home school educators often ask what documents should be provided.
If the home school educator is creating his or her own transcript, please itemize each course completed by academic year. Provide the grade earned in the course. Sign the transcript as the home school educator and have the signature notarized. We consider that transcript as official. In addition please state when the student will complete all required courses.
If the home school is offering courses where the title does not make it clear as to subject content, please include a description of the course. For example, we will understand what first year algebra will cover in content but we will not know what first year integrated mathematics will cover. Your course description will assist us.
If the home school is utilizing a transcript service, have the service provide an official transcript.
The applicant should submit SAT or ACT scores with the transcript. The results of the tests are not used to determine acceptance or denial. They are used to determine where to start the student.
Courses completed and grades earned in courses are the key factors used to determine admission. For a list of those courses, see the admission requirements for beginning students.
Many home school students wish to enroll in college courses while completing their high school curriculum. IUPUI has a program called Running Start. For more information and admission requirements for this program, please visit the SPAN website for details.
If at any time there are questions, please contact the Admissions Center at (317) 274-4591.
