Purdue Student Transfer Admission Requirements

General Policy

You must not be on drop status at Purdue. If you are on drop status you must sit out one full semester (summer sessions are not applicable). All courses with D grades or higher transfer for graduation. If you are transferring into a Purdue program at IUPUI, the grades and credits transfer. If you are transferring into an Indiana University program, only the credits transfer.

If you are on drop status you must sit out a fall or spring semester. If you have been dismissed twice, you must sit out one full academic year. Please mail a statement with your application explaining what caused the low grades and how you will approach your studies at IUPUI. Students on drop status must apply a minimum of two months in advance of proposed enrollment.

Freshman or Sophomore Standing

Completed 55 or fewer transferable semester hours

  • Meet the general policy requirement.
  • If you are below a 2.0 the Admissions Center will determine into which IUPUI School you will enroll. Most students will enroll in the University College. Details of your probationary status will be sent to you with your admission letter or a letter from the Dean's office. For some programs we will require a formal petition and details will be provided after you apply.

If you have fewer than 26 hours of transferable work, the Admissions Committee will examine your high school record or GED score. If you were not admissible from high school, you are expected to complete any review courses that your college requires as well as freshman composition, college algebra or a higher level math course, and three courses in the general education area (e.g. psychology, sociology, history, speech, biology, political science).

Junior Standing or Higher

Completed more than 56 hours of transferable semester hours

  • Based on courses completed and grades you may qualify for direct transfer into IUPUI school offering your area of study. Those not qualifying will be considered for the University College. For some programs we will require a formal petition and details will be provided after you apply.
  • Those admitted to University College will have 30 semester hours to complete any requirements to enter the IUPUI school that offers the major. If the requirements are not completed or the student is not selected for the major, the student must change to the School of Continuing Studies and pursue a General Studies degree.
